by Ellsworth Grant The result of cuts in the budget last year (2011) for DIA’s South Terminal Redevelopment Program is becoming more apparent with the unveiling last week (Jan. 18th., 2012) of the new design executed by Gensler Architects with Denver based architects Anderson Mason Dale. The budget for the program was cut from the original $650 million dollars to $500 million dollars – a whopping $150 million dollar reduction. The new design retains the basic footprint of the original lay-out but with far more down-to-earth sensibilities. Overview The West Corridor will be a 12.1-mile light rail transit corridor between the Denver Union Station in downtown Denver and the Jefferson County Government Center in Golden, serving Denver, Lakewood, the Denver Federal Center, Golden and Jeffco. Construction on the West Corridor is visible in the Denver gulch area, along 6th Avenue in Lakewood and along Colfax Avenue in Golden. Denver Union Station Construction Activity Update For May 2013
Construction Update Regional Bus Facility (LRT to DUS Building) In the interior of the bus facility, crews are continuing to work on installing the electrical/mechanical rough-ins, fire protection and lighting. The installation of insulation, drywall, and the metal panels that are the final finishes in the pedestrian concourse, is continuing as is the installation of the store front glass that separates the pedestrian concourse from the bus loading area. Other finish work, like mill work, terrazzo tile for the floor, and glass tiles on the walls is also progressing. Additionally, crews are working on the stairs, escalators, and elevators that will transport individuals from the CRT platforms to the underground bus facility.
