Kent, tell us about your background and role on the DUSPA Board.
I was elected to the RTD Board in November of 2008. Because of my background in urban planning and commercial real estate, the Chair of the Board thought it would be great for me to serve on the DUSPA Board as one of the two people representing the Regional Transportation District.
I retired recently from my private company, Bagley Development Consultants. Up until the middle of last year my company was involved in brokering commercial real estate transactions, conducting entitlement work, and planning for best-use analysis on eminent domain activity.
My major function on the DUSPA Board is to act as a facilitator between the RTD Board and the DUSPA Board on major issues, making sure that RTD is up to speed on all of the activities at Denver Union Station, and providing coordination and collaboration between the two boards.
What exciting things have you seen evolve since you’ve been on the DUSPA Board?
The big thing for me is to see the transportation infrastructure improvements that are going on at Denver Union Station. They have been really transformative in changing the types of transportation options that we will have when the new station is opened. This fantastic transit-oriented development in the heart of downtown Denver will be the hub of the FasTracks program.
In addition, I’ve had the opportunity to work with the other members of the DUSPA Board on a number of exciting things, not the least of which was obtaining the two major loans for the project—the TIFIA loan and the RRIF loan. The half billion dollar public investment in transportation infrastructure is a big deal in land use planning. We worked on getting those loans and having RTD cooperate with DUSPA in our interactions with the Federal Transit Administration and the Federal Railroad Administration.
Are you working on other projects?
My major activities, right now, are on the RTD Board. I’m the Chairman of the General Manager Oversight Performance Management Committee. I’m also the Chairman of the Planning and Development Committee for the RTD Board, and I sit on the Executive Committee as the Treasurer of the Board.
Before I was elected to the RTD Board, I was the Chairman of the Littleton Planning Commission. In that capacity, I was actively involved with all the local governments in my jurisdiction. This included Littleton, Englewood, Greenwood Village as well as Centennial and Highlands Ranch.
What are some of your personal interests and passions?
Outside of RTD, DUSPA, and my work world, I am very interested in the outdoors; so I do a lot of things like snowshoeing, skiing, fly fishing, and hiking. I’m also a pretty avid birder; and my wife and I enjoy traveling.
