(SBDC) has found an inventive and fun way of helping entrepreneurs develop mentoring relationships through it’s exciting Main Street Mentors Walk Program.
Successful business owners will have an opportunity to share their experiences and help burgeoning small businesses by participating as mentors in the Main Street Mentors Walk, the only Mentors Walk in the nation entirely focused on small businesses.
Scheduled for August 18, this years event is a three-mile walk around City Park. During the walk, successful business owners (mentors) will be paired with new and early-stage entrepreneurs (mentees) who will be able to seek advice and learn from the mentors’ experience in a fun environment.
Denver Metro SBDC chief Tameka Montgomery said last year that the Main Street Mentors Walk furthers the SBDC’s mission of helping businesses to start, grow and prosper by giving successful business owners an opportunity to share their experiences and pay it forward to help other business owners.
While not a guarantee for business success, a business mentor can help a fledgling entrepreneur to avoid costly mistakes, continued Montgomery. The challenge for many, she added, is having access to successful entrepreneurs and knowing how to initiate a mentoring relationship.
“This event supports the U.S. Small Business Administration’s effort to mobilize the current generation of successful business owners to mentor entrepreneurs and help them become the next generation of great American companies,” said Tameka Montgomery, executive director of the Denver Metro Small Business Development Center. “We believe that small business is big business in Colorado, and this program helps us to support a growing and vibrant business community in Denver.”
New or early-stage entrepreneurs and growing businesses (mentees) seeking advice from a successful business owner are encouraged to participate (mentee space is limited – register today!)
Small businesses are the backbone of Colorado’s economy! This event gives entrepreneurs the chance to learn from someone who has “been there, done that” and has walked in the shoes of a fledgling business owner.
This year’s event is Saturday, August 18, 2012 from 8 – 10:30 a.m. @ The City Park Pavilion Denver, Colorado; the cost for this event is $35 (includes t-shirt)
